Event Description:
“A Pathway to Hope and Healing”
In Support of Suicide Prevention Awareness
For the past six years the Village of New Lenox and the New Lenox Safe Community Coalition have hosted “A Pathway to Hope and Healing,” to raise awareness about suicide and to provide those who have lost loved ones to suicide, a “pathway to hope and healing.” This event has typically featured breakout sessions, keynote speakers, panel discussions and resource tables. However, with restrictions in place due to COVID-19, the event will be held virtually this year.
Suicide continues to be a leading cause of death in the United States. Far too often individuals are in crisis and don’t know what to do or where to turn for help. But there are steps that can be taken to avert many of these crisis situations and plans to better address them when they do occur.
On Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, “A Pathway to Hope and Healing” will be held via Zoom videoconference and will feature Lieutenant Troy Siewert, Crisis Intervention Team Coordinator, Orland Park Police Department. Lieutenant Siewert will discuss various “areas of opportunity” in which all of us, as individuals and as a community, can work to make a difference. You will hear ideas that can be used with regard to yourself, your friends and family, and as part of a community team. You CAN make a difference; you just need to know how!
In addition to Lieutenant Siewert’s presentation, Jennifer Millette, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Counseling Works, will provide attendees information about holistic mental health. Jennifer will engage attendees at the beginning of the event with a mindfulness and bodywork demonstration. She will also invite attendees to stay on after Lieutenant Siewert’s presentation for additional exercises.
