Event Description:
Welcome to the New Year; I hope that 2020 is off to a great start for you!
As you may have heard, the library will be on the March 17, 2020 Primary Election Ballot for an operational tax rate increase. What the ballot does not tell you is that the library paid off the bonds in December 2019; these funds were utilized to construct our current building back in 2001. This means that the tax rate that the library was collecting to repay the bonds will disappear completely. The Library Board of Trustees and I believe that redirecting the same exact tax rate from the bonds to the operational tax rate as an equal exchange is a fiscally responsible option for our organization and you, the taxpayer.
More information about our referendum, including what happens with a yes or no vote, can be found at www.newlenoxlibrary.org/vote.
In addition, I hope that you will join us in the library’s meeting room to learn more during our referendum informational meetings:
Financial and architectural consultants, along with Library Trustees and I, will present the facts you need to make a well-informed decision. Frequently asked questions will be addressed, and, most importantly, there will be time to ask your own questions. We look forward to seeing you there!
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached via phone at 815-485-2605 ext. 101 or via email at mkrooswyk@newlenoxlibrary.org. With advance notice, I would also be able to meet with you in-person.
Regards,
Michelle Krooswyk
Library Director
